The Seringapatam was the first of the so-called “Blackwall Frigates”, a group of East Indiaman ships. It was built in 1837 by Green, Wigram’s & Green’s Blackwall Yard in London, England for R. & H. Green.
After launch it set a new record of 85 days from London to Bombay, India.
Charles Hyne served aboard the ship as chief officer at some point between 1837 and 1839.
